The Journey to Finding My Calling: What do I really want to do in my life?

Posted by Alina Nordling on

Dear Readers,

Today, I want to share a personal tale of navigating the winding roads of life, in search of that elusive and profound sense of purpose - my calling. It's a journey that has taken me through ups and downs, uncertainties, and moments of self-doubt, but it has also been a voyage of self-discovery, growth, and ultimately, finding a deeper meaning in the pursuit of my passions.

For years, I felt an unshakable restlessness, an innate feeling that I was meant for something more, something greater than my everyday routine. I couldn't pinpoint what exactly that "something" was, which added to the frustration. Society often places great emphasis on having a well-defined path, but what if you find yourself wandering amidst the vastness of possibilities, seeking a direction that feels authentically your own?

In my search for a calling, I encountered several key insights that have shaped my perspective on this journey:

  • Embracing the Uncertainty: The pursuit of one's calling can be a process of trial and error. Instead of fearing uncertainty, I chose to embrace it as an opportunity for growth. It's okay not to have all the answers right away; life unfolds in its own time, and every experience serves a purpose, even if it's not immediately apparent.

  • Listening to My Heart: Amidst the noise of external expectations and societal norms, I learned to tune into the whispers of my heart. I asked myself, "What activities make me lose track of time? What brings me the most joy and fulfillment?" These questions revealed the passions that had always been there, waiting for me to recognize them.

  • Learning from Failures: Along the way, I encountered setbacks and failures that shook my confidence. However, I reframed these experiences as valuable lessons. Each failure brought with it an opportunity to reassess, learn, and pivot towards a new direction.

  • Exploring New Avenues: My journey to find my calling involved stepping outside of my comfort zone. I explored different interests, took up new hobbies, and engaged in volunteering opportunities. These experiences broadened my perspective and provided unique insights into what truly resonated with me.

  • Seeking Inspiration from Others: I found solace and inspiration in stories of individuals who had discovered their callings against all odds. Reading about their experiences reminded me that the path to finding one's purpose is as diverse as humanity itself.

  • Trusting the Timing: Patience became my greatest ally. I learned to trust that my calling would reveal itself at the right time. Rushing to find it would only lead to frustration and might blind me to unexpected opportunities along the way.

  • Aligning Values with Actions: I discovered that finding my calling involved aligning my values with my actions. It wasn't just about a specific career or pursuit but about living a life that resonated with my core beliefs.

As my journey progressed, I realized that the quest for a calling is not a destination, but an ongoing process. It's about finding purpose in each step of the journey rather than reaching a fixed endpoint. This mindset shift allowed me to let go of the pressure to have all the answers and embrace the beauty of continuous exploration.

Today, I stand here with a deeper understanding of myself and a clearer sense of purpose. While I may not have it all figured out, I know that my calling lies in following my passions, embracing growth, and staying open to the possibilities that life presents.

If you, too, find yourself searching for your calling, I encourage you to embark on this journey of self-discovery with an open heart and a curious mind. Embrace the uncertainties, welcome the challenges, and trust that your calling will unfold in its own perfect time. Remember, the journey itself is where the magic lies.

With hopeful anticipation,

Alina
